Kashmir Holiday Guide: Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg
Kashmir is ideal for mountain views, relaxed stays and scenic drives, but the best experience depends on season and pacing.
Use Srinagar as a gentle start
Dal Lake, Mughal gardens and a houseboat stay make Srinagar a beautiful arrival point. It gives travellers time to settle before longer valley drives.
Pahalgam and Gulmarg feel different
Pahalgam is softer and valley-focused, while Gulmarg is known for snow, gondola experiences and open meadows. Including both adds variety.
Pack by season
Spring and summer need layers for cool evenings, autumn is crisp and winter requires proper warm clothing. Weather can change quickly in mountain regions.
How many nights work best
Five to six nights are comfortable for Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Add Sonmarg or extra leisure time only if you have more days, because mountain drives can become tiring when packed too tightly.
Local experience tip
A Shikara ride, local market visit and one relaxed evening by the lake add more warmth to the holiday than rushing through viewpoints. Kashmir is best enjoyed with space for scenery, tea stops and photography.
