What to expect

Modern Dubai was formed in the early 20th century, when the ruling family established its dominance in this charismatic and historic community. Located on the shores of Dubai Creek, Ashdaga is now popular with tourists for attractions such as coral stone buildings with traditional wind towers, Dubai Folk Culture Village and Sheikh Saeedal Maktoum's former residence. The Al Shindagha Museum is known as a "must visit for anyone interested in Emirati culture and those who want to know more about Emirati culture" and there are many exhibitions here. The museum is divided into three pavilions: GovernanceandSociety, CreativityandWell-Being, LivingofftheLandandSea. There is also a children's pavilion, an educational and public exhibition hall where events will be held regularly, a cultural heritage centre, a performance centre and temporary pavilions. In the GovernanceandSociety pavilion, visitors will be mainly guided to learn about the Al Maktoum family in Dubai, as well as the traditional architecture and modern towers of the Dubai cityscape, and to explore the city's central birthplace - Dubai Creek. In the Creativity and Well-Being pavilion, there are traditional Dubai crafts, jewelry, fragrances, and an in-depth understanding of the world of traditional Emirati culture and what they mean today. The third exhibition area, LivingofftheLandandSea, will introduce the culture of the sea, the culture of the land, and how the Emiratis live in these two regions. The Children's Pavilion will introduce children to history in a simple, safe and child-friendly way. Inside, there are interactive exhibits and traditional Emirati games.
