What to expect
Experience the rich history of the centuries-old Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren, just over 20 kilometers from the city of Groningen. Visit the museum and walk through the estate’s unique park.
Walk up the stately driveway and see the striking, white-plastered borg through the trees. The Fraeylemaborg has been a home for centuries for families who each left their mark on the estate. Explore the interior, presented as a stately home in the 20th century. The rooms give an impression of everyday life, both for the family and the staff. After entering the imposing hall, tour the borg independently with an audioguide or a printed visitor's guide.
Like the building, the park of the Fraeylemaborg is also a national monument, a special place where elements of the French Baroque and English landscape style have been preserved side by side. Walk over winding paths, past ponds, garden ornaments, and special trees as you venture further into the forest park.
Every season offers a different experience. In spring, the flowering plants give color to the fields. In summer, walk leisurely in the shade of the tall trees. Autumn brings color and mushrooms. In winter, enjoy a wide view of the nearby fields from the park.
