What to expect
Experience Amsterdam from a new perspective
Explore the canals of Amsterdam on a relaxed 1-hour boat tour with a live German-speaking host on board. As you glide gently over the waterways, a unique view of the city opens up: past picturesque bridges, leaning canal houses and impressive landmarks. A tour for travellers who want to understand Amsterdam, not just photograph it.
A live German host narrates the whole way
Your German-speaking host is on board for the full hour, sharing the history, culture and architecture of Amsterdam in clear, lively German. You will learn how the Dutch East India Company (VOC) made Amsterdam the wealthiest city in 17th-century Europe, why the UNESCO-listed Grachtengordel was built in concentric rings, and why the famous canal houses are often leaning. Ask any question along the way. This is a live tour, not a recorded audio guide.
A Dutch skipper at the wheel
Our experienced Dutch skipper knows every canal and bridge in the city. The skipper handles navigation while your German host handles the storytelling. Together they bring you the most authentic experience on the water.
The route, in one hour
Departing from Amstel 178, the loop begins along the Amstel past the leaning Dancing Houses and heads into Amsterdam's open inner harbor. You will see the green NEMO Science Museum, the Het Scheepvaartmuseum and the medieval Montelbaanstoren. The route swings past the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, then into the old city for views of the Oude Kerk, the Zuiderkerk and the Munttoren. From there the boat threads through the Nieuwe Herengracht past the Rembrandt House and Stadsherstel Amsterdam, the elegant Herengracht, the photogenic Reguliersgracht with its Seven Bridges photo point, and the lively Prinsengracht. You will cruise down the Amstel toward the Amstel Hotel, turn back, and return past the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) and the Nationale Opera & Ballet (Stopera) before arriving back at the dock. One loop, one hour, 17 landmarks.
Boat, weather and family
All boats are 100 percent electric: quiet, emission-free and well-suited to the narrow canals. The boat has a roof for shelter from rain and wind, but the sides are open and there is no heater on board. We recommend warm, weather-appropriate clothing as Amsterdam's weather is famously unpredictable, much like Hamburg's. Up to 30 passengers per departure. Children are welcome on board with reduced ticket prices.
Drinks on board
Beer, wine and soft drinks can be purchased directly on board. Card payment only (no cash). No drinks or snacks are included in the ticket price.
