Visit the Depot of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the world’s first publicly accessible art storage facility. Located next to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Museumpark in Rotterdam, the depot houses more than 155,000 objects, arranged in fourteen storage compartments with five different climates.
Explore the depot, which offers a different dynamic to that of a traditional museum. Wander through the building, surrounded by 155,000 artworks, and get behind-the-scenes glimpses of conservation and restoration.
See the entire collection, arranged not by period or art movement but based on the objects’ climate requirements. As you enter the building, see through the glass walls into the space where the artworks are unloaded.
As you wander through the building, look through large windows to see inside the storage compartments, watch restorers at work, and observe how the artworks are prepared and packed for transportation.
