What to expect
This excursion will take you to discover Bulnes, one of the most impressive and iconic corners of the Picos de Europa. A natural gem that combines spectacular landscapes, picturesque villages, and unique traditions.
We'll start the day heading towards Poncebos, following the course of the Cares River. During the journey, you'll enjoy a landscape where the mountains rise majestically and the small rural villages seem to have stopped in time. The beauty of this mountainous setting will accompany you every step of the way.
In Poncebos, the starting point of the famous Cares Route. Known as "The Divine Gorge", this route crosses an impressive ravine that offers unforgettable views of the Garganta del Cares, a natural canyon sculpted by river erosion between the steep rock walls. This experience is ideal for connecting with nature and enjoying the serenity of the landscape.
- Bulnes Funicular: We'll head to the funicular that will take us to Bulnes, a small and charming village hidden in the heart of the Picos de Europa mountains, with no road access. The funicular ride, which lasts just 8 minutes, is a unique experience: completely underground, it crosses the mountain and provides access to one of the most isolated and authentic villages in Asturias.
- Village of Bulnes: Once in Bulnes, you'll be immersed in an environment that seems untouched by the passage of time. Its cobbled streets, its houses with traditional architecture, and the tranquility that permeates the air make it an ideal place to disconnect, as there is no cell phone coverage. Here, you can visit the small chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, a place full of charm, or climb to the vantage point, from where you'll enjoy the breathtaking views of the Picu Urriellu (Naranjo de Bulnes), one of the most iconic peaks in Spain and a symbol of inspiration for mountaineers and travelers from around the world.
- Cueva del Queso Cabrales: We'll continue our excursion by heading to Arenas de Cabrales, the birthplace of one of Asturias' most cherished traditions: the production of the famous Cabrales cheese. During our visit to the Cueva del Queso, you'll learn about the artisanal process of making this delicacy, a method that has been passed down from generation to generation and that has made Cabrales cheese one of the hallmarks of Asturian cuisine.
To end the experience, we'll enjoy a Cabrales cheese food tasting accompanied by Asturian cider, a combination that perfectly reflects the authentic character and essence of this region. This tasting will let you savor the richness and tradition of Asturian products, rounding off an unforgettable day.
Book now and discover the Picos de Europa in a way that will thrill you. You'll love it!
