What to expect
The Barcelona Maritime Museum displays the glorious military achievements of Spain during its time as the hegemon of the oceans. This shipyard was built in the 14th century and is a witness to the glorious history of Catalonia's maritime trade and shipping industry. It was also the largest shipyard in the world at that time. The Barcelona Maritime Museum has a rich collection of various ships, nautical supplies and items related to marine culture from different periods. It mainly introduces the maritime culture of Catalonia, the maritime history of Spain and the world's most advanced shipbuilding technology at that time.Exhibits not to be missedThe most worth seeing collection in the museum is the battleship "John of Austria" placed in the middle of the exhibition hall. It had made great contributions in the Battle of Lepanto. Its finely carved gilded bow ornaments, bright red hull, and densely packed giant oars on both sides are eye-catching. However, it is a pity that you cannot visit the ship.In addition, there are gunboat models built in Cuba, nautical readings in the pirate exhibition area, etc. The ship models here can be viewed up close, and some of the gun ports can even be touched with your own hands.Walking in the museum, you can see barrels, wooden boxes, cables, and anchor chains placed everywhere. The tall wooden boards divide the originally spacious warship production workshop into passages, making people feel as if they are walking on the narrow deck of a sailboat.
