What to expect
Gala Dalí Castle was originally an 11th-century building. It was later purchased by surrealist master Salvador Dalí and became the castle for him and his wife. At that time, the structure was dilapidated from years of neglect—its ceiling had collapsed and the garden was in ruins. But through Dalí's restoration efforts, the castle regained its vitality. He ingeniously incorporated the damaged walls and ceilings to create a space brimming with creativity.
In 1982, this place became Dalí's studio, where he and his wife were also laid to rest. By 1996, it opened to visitors. The castle's interior features exquisite decor with vibrant colors and Baroque-style embellishments, housing numerous antiques indoors and large sculptures in the garden.
Unlike Dalí's other creations, this castle was actually inhabited by Dalí and his wife, as the artist devoted more attention to this particular structure. The castle houses numerous small works by Dalí and surrealistic touches throughout—visitors will need keen eyes to spot all the hidden details and fully appreciate the experience.
