What to expect
The Centro Botín in Santander, Spain, funded by the Banco Santander Foundation, pays tribute to its former president Emilio Botín. Opened in 2017, the center consists of two buildings connected by a cantilevered platform—one dedicated to exhibition spaces and the other serving as a hub for educational and cultural activities. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano in collaboration with Luis Vidal + Architects, Centro Botín is located in Santander's prime area, seamlessly integrating the city center, the historic Pereda Gardens, and the bay. Light and transparency were key elements in the architect's vision. Suspended above the water without touching land, the structure rests on columns at treetop height, resembling a "pier" over the sea. This elevation allows natural light to filter through while offering panoramic bay views, blending harmoniously with its surroundings.
