What to expect
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the home of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in north London, replacing the club's previous stadium, White Hart Lane. With a capacity of 62,850, it is the third largest football stadium in England and the largest club stadium in London. Designed as a multi-purpose stadium, it features the world's first divisible, retractable football pitch, which reveals a synthetic turf field below for use at the London Olympics, concerts and other events.
Construction of the stadium was initiated as the centerpiece of the Northumberland Development Project and is intended to be the catalyst for Tottenham Hotspur's 20-year redevelopment plan. The project covers the now demolished White Hart Lane site and its surrounding areas. The project was first conceived in 2007 and announced in 2008, but plans were revised several times and construction of the stadium, plagued by controversy and delays, did not begin until 2015. An opening ceremony was held on April 3, 2019, before the first Premier League match at the stadium.
The name "Tottenham Hotspur Stadium" is temporary, with the purpose of selling the naming rights so that it can be named after the sponsor later, but as of November 2021, it still has not been renamed. The stadium is sometimes referred to by fans and some media as the new White Hart Lane.
