What to expect
The East Side Gallery is an art exhibition area on the Berlin Wall at Mühlenstrasse in Berlin, Germany. This section of the Berlin Wall is located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Berlin, and is built along one side of the Spree River (the border is the center of the Spree River). It is 1.3 kilometers long. This place has become a popular symbol of freedom and a memorial site. This section of the Berlin Wall is also called the "hinterland mauer" because it is close to the demarcation line between the urban areas of East Berlin.
The East Side Gallery contains 105 paintings created on the east side of the Berlin Wall in 1990. During a comprehensive restoration in May 2009, two-thirds of the works were damaged and one-third was preserved by a non-profit organization.
