This wax museum is not just a gallery of celebrity portraits, but a time capsule blending history, art, and interactive experiences, allowing every visitor to touch the warmth of civilization between reality and illusion.
The museum was originally conceived in the late 19th century by Arthur Meyer, founder of Le Gaulois newspaper, who wanted to bring the celebrities featured on his front pages to life. At a time when photography wasn't yet widespread, he aimed to give readers the chance to see their idols in person. Collaborating with sculptor and stage designer Alfred Grévin, Meyer established this namesake museum, launching a wax figure legacy spanning three centuries. After multiple expansions and renovations, the museum now covers 3,000 square meters, preserving its original 1882 Baroque-style dome hall and column hall where gilded decorations interplay with marble patterns, showcasing quintessential French elegance.
The museum visit duration is approx. 90 min. It's easily accessible by subway - take Line 8 or 9 to Grands Boulevards station, then a 2-min walk. Bus routes 20, 74, and 85 also stop right at the entrance.
