What to expect
Climb up the Citadel of Saint-Louis and visit the medieval fortifications of Aigues-Mortes. Once a port and later a prison, you can explore the medieval town's fortifications and learn about life in the 13th century. The place looks very much like the Middle Ages. Wander inside the defensive walls and visit the Gothic Notre-Dame-des-Sablons church, which was built in the 13th century and was used as a grain warehouse. Head to the Grande Rue Jean Jaurès, where you can find the heart of the walled town, have a drink in a café or explore the shops. !
