What to expect

The Mont Saint Michel Abbey is located on Mont Saint Michel. Mont Saint Michel overlooks the English Channel to the north. The monastery is like the finishing touch on the top of the mountain, making its overall visual effect spectacular. A place occupied by the British, it is also the third holiest site in Catholicism.

△The abbey church was built in 1023 and the entire project took almost a hundred years to complete. A strategic point in the heart of the bay, the abbey was also a fortress of the Duchy of Normandy in the Middle Ages. During the Hundred Years' War, and despite the numerous conflicts that took place in the region, Mont-Saint-Michel resisted. This is notably thanks to the construction of powerful ramparts, which made it an impregnable city, but undoubtedly also thanks to the incessant coming and going of the tides.

• From September 1 to September 30, 2025, visitors who choose to enter between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM can purchase discounted tickets on-site (€2 off per person)
• The price difference cannot be refunded for online ticket purchases.
• Some outdoor attractions may close due to severe weather.
• Free admission days: The first Sunday of each month from November to March; and during the European Heritage Days on the third weekend of September (Saturday, September 20 – Sunday, September 21, 2025; Saturday, September 19 – Sunday, September 20, 2026).
• Free admission visitors must present valid credentials at the ticket office to exchange for a complimentary ticket before entering.
