What to expect

Admission to the Royal Flying Doctors Centre allows for a one-and-a-half-hour tour, including a 10-minute video recording, a visit to the operating control room and a historical display museum with ancient medical instruments. The Royal Flying Doctors Service is a unique organisation in Australia, founded in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn of the Australian Presbyterian Church. It provides 24/7 emergency medical and healthcare services by air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It serves people who live, work and travel in remote Australian outbacks. The Flying Doctor Service reaches an average of 183,000 patients a year, of which 17,000 are airlifted to other hospitals for treatment. The service has 17 medical bases and 38 aircraft that fly over the 7.15 million square kilometers of "airspace" under the service's jurisdiction, averaging about 12 million kilometers per year.
