Two of the most photographed places in the American Southwest, reached in a single long day from Las Vegas. The coach leaves before dawn and crosses the Mojave into Arizona, with the landscape shifting from desert scrub to red rock as the light comes up.

Antelope Canyon is entered on foot with a Navajo guide, down into a slot barely wide enough for two people. The sandstone walls rise a hundred feet, twisted and fluted by flash floods into shapes that look carved rather than eroded, and around midday shafts of light drop through the openings above and strike the floor.

Horseshoe Bend is the day's other stop — a short walk to a clifftop where the Colorado River has cut a near-perfect loop a thousand feet below. There is no railing at the edge, and the drop is genuinely vertiginous. Lunch is included, and the coach is back in Las Vegas late in the evening.
