What to expect
Kiyotsu Gorge is one of Japan's three great valleys. Its steep columnar textures create a striking beauty, perfectly complementing the Kiyotsu River's rushing waters and rugged cliffs to form a majestic landscape. After the valley tunnel was constructed, visitors can admire its grandeur from the observation deck. The canyon stretches approximately 12 km, formed by volcanic activity 80,000 years ago. Its towering basalt cliffs reach up to 100 meters, creating a majestic landscape. The 750-meter sightseeing tunnel, opened in 1996, features four observation decks. At the terminal "Light Cave," water mirrors reflect the canyon's wonders into dreamlike scenes that change with the seasons: spring cherry blossoms adorn the cliffs, summer greenery dyes the pools, autumn maples blaze like fire, and winter snow blankets the precipices.
