The Tower of London is a castle that began as a royal palace and has since served various purposes including fortress, armory, torture chamber, and prison, and was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1988. It housed upper class prisoners such as Elizabeth I and executed many noblemen. The Jewel House at the Tower of London shows the British royal family's jewels, crowns, scepters, swords and other treasures.
