What to expect
Green Island's Chaori Hot Springs are a rare underwater hot spring located in the intertidal zone of the Sailboat Nose Reef southeast of Green Island. Facing the Pacific Ocean, you can watch the sun slowly rise from the surface, earning it the nickname "Asahi Hot Springs" during the Japanese colonial era. Besides enjoying a morning soak and watching the sunrise, you can also enjoy the quiet sound of the waves and the starry sky at night, or prepare a variety of unique dishes using the underwater hot springs. The underwater hot springs are also suitable for beginners and intermediate scuba divers, offering a relaxing and unique hot spring experience.
The spring water of Asahi Onsen is clear and transparent, with a temperature of about 60-70 degrees Celsius. It is a slightly acidic sulfate chloride spring, but without a strong smell of sulfur. It has the salty taste of seawater and is non-irritating to human skin. It is not sticky after washing, making it a rare saltwater hot spring.
Chaori Hot Spring can accommodate about 300 tourists and has a full range of spa equipment indoors. There are three circular open-air baths, a semi-outdoor hot spring pool and a large swimming pool near the sea in the hot spring area. The water temperature in the baths changes with the high and low tides, creating a natural sauna.
