What to expect

Founded in 1983, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is Taiwan's first public art museum. Its mission is to promote the preservation, research, development, and popularization of modern and contemporary Taiwanese art. Besides compiling Taiwan's nearly 100-year art history, it also maintains a focus on the development of contemporary art. By grasping a global perspective, building regional connections, nurturing artistic talent, and promoting art education, the museum fosters the development of an artistic ecosystem, elevating the cultural and artistic cultivation of all citizens and fostering a contemporary society characterized by aesthetic appreciation, creativity, and critical thinking.

Designed by Gauerpan Architects, the museum is located in Yuanshan District, on the banks of the Keelung River. Its minimalist, gray-and-white architecture incorporates the spirit of the Chinese courtyard house. Its cantilevered corridors transform the architectural elements of bracket sets into a "well"-shaped main structure, symbolizing the museum as a source of cultural life. The lobby is bright and spacious, encompassing three floors above ground and one basement level of exhibition space, and is illuminated by glass curtain walls. The atrium draws in external light, showcasing diverse layers of greenery, creating a tranquil, tranquil, and natural public green space.

The National Taiwan Museum of Art curates biennials that combine Taiwanese and global characteristics, hosts open call for submissions to connect and nurture the art ecosystem, and organizes thematic exhibitions and traveling exchange exhibitions to promote the vigorous development of Taiwanese modern and contemporary art. It also plans various learning activities based on age and audience strategies, including lectures, seminars, guided tours, on-site exhibition dialogues, and various exploration/experience courses through workshops.
