The British Consulate at Takow is located on the picturesque Sizihwan Bay with its seamless blend of sea and sky. The name "Takow" originated from the Chinese pronunciation of the indigenous term for bamboo groves, which were abundant in Kaohsiung. Later, the Japanese deemed the name "Takow" inelegant and changed it to "Kaohsiung," pronounced as "taka-o" in Japanese, which closely resembles the original name.

The British Consulate at Takow is perched on the picturesque Sizihwan Bay, divided into two sections: the hilltop residence and the consulate building below. The hilltop residence showcases post-Renaissance Baroque architecture, distinguished by its red-brick facade, bamboo-shaped downspouts, stone carvings, and arched designs. The first floor features a cultural gift shop, an observation deck, and a courtyard. From the observation deck, visitors can enjoy uninterrupted views of the sunset. The second floor houses an exhibition room, where models, historical maps, and multimedia displays intertwine to immerse visitors in Kaohsiung's rich 100-year port history.
