What to expect
Located in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, just 10 minutes from Kenting Main Street, Kenting National Forest Recreation Area is Taiwan's second national forest recreation area. Home to dense tropical forests, it was once a tropical botanical garden, cultivating numerous tropical plants from both China and abroad. Kenting also boasts a rich birdlife, especially from August to spring, when red-tailed shrikes, red-bellied hawks, gray-faced buzzards, and orioles arrive one after another, creating a must-see attraction.
The Kenting National Forest Recreation Area was originally a marine garden of stony corals, calcareous algae, foraminifera, and shells. Due to tectonic plate movements 500,000 years ago, this area has evolved into a unique forest ecosystem: a high-lying coral reef forest. This rich ecosystem, monsoon rainforest, and limestone terrain offer visitors a unique recreational opportunity in Kenting. Another major feature of the Kenting National Forest Recreation Area is its limestone formations. In caves like Silver Dragon Cave and the Stalagmite Cave, you can see geological treasures such as stalactites and stalagmites. This fantastical forest is a feast for the eyes of adventure lovers!
