- ALL Participants will need to obtain special documents to drive in Japan
- For most countries, an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued in the booklet format compliant to the 1949 Geneva Convention is required
- Valid IDP's can only be issued by the same country that issued your domestic license and CANNOT be obtained online while traveling
- Driver's licenses issued in Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, or Monaco will need to obtain a Japanese translation of their license from the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF), NOT an International Driving Permit
- Drivers' licenses issued by countries NOT covered by the 1949 Geneva Convention (such as China, Indonesia, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc.) are not permitted to drive in Japan Participants must carry their physical International Driving Permit (or for exceptional countries listed above that requires a Japanese translation: the physical domestic license + official translation) and physical passport Not allowed items: Alcohol and drugs High-heeled shoes Sandals or flip flops Slippers Not suitable for: Children under 18 years Hearing-impaired people People with back problems People with mobility impairments Pregnant women Wheelchair users
