What to expect
Experience premium shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa, near Cape Town, with White Shark Projects. We are an award-winning operator known for safe, professional, and unforgettable marine encounters.
Located approximately 2.5 hours from Cape Town, Gansbaai is one of the world’s most renowned shark cage diving destinations. Choose return transport from Cape Town, Hermanus, or surrounding areas, or meet us directly at our ocean-view lodge in Kleinbaai.
Your day begins with a relaxed continental breakfast, followed by a comprehensive safety briefing led by our marine biologist. Learn about the fascinating shark species found in these waters, including bronze whaler sharks and sevengill cow sharks. We also share honest insight into the declining presence of great white sharks in the area—what we’ve witnessed over the years, and the real challenges these animals face in a changing ocean.
A short boat ride takes you to the dive site, maximising your time at sea. Spend approximately 3 hours on the water. When it’s your turn, enter the secure, professionally operated cage for an unforgettable close-up encounter. Each guest enjoys around 20 minutes in the cage, with the opportunity for a second dive. Excellent surface viewing ensures you don’t miss any action.
Depending on conditions, you may also encounter Cape fur seals, dolphins, whales, and a variety of seabirds. No scuba certification is required, and all equipment is provided.
After your dive, return to the lodge for hot showers, refreshments, and a light lunch. A trip video is available as an optional extra.
What sets us apart is what happens beyond the boat. Through our Recycle Swop Shop, we support around 100 children every week—over 1,000 each year—by exchanging recycling for essential goods, directly connecting ocean conservation with community upliftment. This is not an add-on or a side project; it is part of who we are. When you dive with White Shark Projects, you are choosing an operator that actively shapes both marine conservation and the local community—long after your experience at sea has ended.
