Take an unforgettable journey into the heart of Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most iconic natural attraction, with guided commentary from your driver throughout the day. Experience the world-famous fiord surrounded by dense rainforest, glacier-carved valleys, and spectacular waterfalls.
Departing from Queenstown, travel in comfort along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and across southern farmland to Lake Te Anau, the South Island’s largest lake. After a morning tea stop (own expense), continue along the lake and into Fiordland National Park. Enter the picturesque Eglinton Valley, home to ancient alpine forests and cascading waterfalls, and one of the few glacier-carved valleys in New Zealand accessible by road. Along the way, your glass-roof coach ensures panoramic views of the dramatic landscapes, with plenty of opportunities for photos at highlights such as Mirror Lakes, where calm waters perfectly reflect the surrounding mountains, and Knobs Flat, shaped by ancient glaciers.
Cross the Main Divide of the Southern Alps, taking in breathtaking peaks from the comfort of your coach. Stop at Monkey Creek to sample some of the purest water in the world (and watch out for cheeky kea, the native mountain parrots!). Continue through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2 km passage carved through solid rock, and descend into Milford Sound through lush native forest.
At Milford Sound, board the 1 hour 45 minute scenic cruise on Pride of Milford and set off to explore Milford Sound, one of the world’s most dramatic and beautiful fiords, surrounded by towering cliffs, waterfalls, and rainforest. Enhance your cruise experience with a pre-booked picnic or hot buffet lunch (additional cost applies) as you glide past glacier-scarred rock walls, cascading waterfalls, and steep rainforest-clad cliffs. Keep an eye out for wildlife including seals, penguins, and dolphins. Marvel at the dramatic Mitre Peak, rising 1,692 metres above sea level.
