What to expect
Before the tour:
First of all, take a look at which option you choose, as there are several and they differ from each other. Choose the one that suits you best. Start your journey with a comfortable ride from Krakow. Enjoy a scenic 1.5h drive with our licensed, English-speaking drivers or tour leaders. Meet your licensed local guide at Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, ready to provide an in-depth exploration of the sites. The guide is not included only in the self-paced option, which is definitely cheaper.
Auschwitz I Museum & Memorial:
Enter Auschwitz I through the "Arbeit Macht Frei" gate. Equipped with a headset, your group—limited to 30 (or 15) visitors explore the touching remnants. See original barracks, fortified walls, barbed wires and gas chambers. This segment, lasting approximately 2 hours, offers a poignant reflection on the Holocaust's staggering scale. In the self-paced option, you will explore the museum on your own, with approximately 2 hours to do so.
Transition to Birkenau:
After a 15-minute break, head to Birkenau (Auschwitz II), just a 3-minute drive. Delve deeper into the camp's grim history, learn about the harrowing tales of prisoners, atrocious living conditions. The guide ends by talking about liberation of Auschwitz, stressing how important it is to remember and stop such terrible things from happening again. This part of the tour takes about 1 hour. Remember, the entire camp is massive, so you won't see everything. In the self-paced option, you will visit Birkenau from the outside, with no entry to the camp. However, you will have the opportunity to see the scale of the camp and take photos of the main gate and railway tracks.
