What to expect
We meet in Austurvollur (Parliament Sq) outside Hotel Borg before we walk to the Old Harbour and see exactly where the Brits landed in May 1940. Using period photographs and videos we take you back in time, letting you see how Reykjavik has changed.
We follow the route the soldiers took into the heart of the city, through the old town, taking over key buildings as they went. As well as the Brits we discuss the American presence here, and how they changed our society - from the food we ate to the music we danced to!
Things to note
- Outdoor clothing
- Comfortable shoes
- Camera
- Rain gear
Terms & conditions
We go in almost all weather, so please dress accordingly - even in summer Iceland is colder than you might think!
The only reason the tour isn't suitable for under 10's is the subject matter we cover. If you want to bring you little children with you please arrange a private tour with The War Tour and we will adjust the material accordingly.
This is a walking tour and whilst there are benches at several of the stops it isn't at all of them. We do go up and back down a small hill but most of the tour is flat and there are no stairs (So we are suitable for wheelchair users)
