What to expect
Begin your adventure with a boat ride from Ísafjörður to Aðalvík. As you sail, take in the stunning views of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, a place where nature has been left to thrive undisturbed since the 1950s.
Once you arrive in Aðalvík, set off on an 11-kilometer hike through the rugged landscape. The trail takes you through a variety of terrains, including rocky paths and lush meadows, with an elevation gain of about 300 meters. Keep an eye out for arctic foxes, birds, and seals, all of which call this protected area home.
Your destination is the abandoned settlement of Hesteyri. Here, enjoy a well-deserved break at the Doctors House Café, where warm drinks and pancakes await. After refueling, take some time to explore the area, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning natural beauty.
In the late afternoon, board the boat back to Ísafjörður, reflecting on a day spent in one of Iceland’s most remote and beautiful regions.
