What to expect
Begin your adventure with a boat ride from Ísafjörður to the abandoned village of Hesteyri. From there, set off on a guided hike through the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, a remote area abandoned in the 1950s and now a haven for arctic foxes, birds, seals, and diverse plant life.
Trek through creeks and bays, taking in the unspoiled nature and learning about the area’s unique history from your guide. Continue on foot to another abandoned settlement at Sæból in Aðalvík.
This hike is suitable for those in moderate or good shape, covering a distance of about 12 km on rough ground with an elevation gain of about 300 meters.

Terms & conditions
Participation requires warm and wind/waterproof clothes, solid hiking boots, gloves and cap, a lunch pack, and something to drink.
Wading shoes are optional, but a small towel is recommended to dry your feet after being in the water.
