What to expect
Starting from the harbour, in Djúpivogur, this shore excursion heads south along hugging stunning coastline as it goes. The imposing presence of Vatnajökull glacier – the largest glacier in all of Europe – looms to your right all the way.
Out first stop is at Jökulsálón Glacier Lagoon, where one can´t help be see the influence that Vatnajökull glaicer imposes on its surrounding landscape. Marvel at the great icebergs that have broken off the mighty glacier into the pristine lagoon, creating a stunning natural spectacle. Take time to enjoy the beautiful views and vistas.
Next, head to the Diamond Beach, also known as Fellsfjara. Once the ice from the glacier lagoon reaches the sea, it is often washed straight back ashore here and onto the desolute volcanic black sands. The contrast between the crystal ice and the dark sand is truly something to behold.
On the return journey to your port, make one final stop at the photographer’s paradise at Hvalnes Peninsula. From this coastal plain, the stunning Eystrahorn mountain lingers to the north. The dramatic horn-shaped peak of volcanic rock imparts a real sense of otherworldly grandeur.
We return to Djúpivogur with time to spare before your ship departs.
