Next, visit Ytri Tunga Seal Beach, located on the southern coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Ytri Tunga is famous for its resident seals that can often be seen lounging on the rocks or playing in the shallow waters. Unlike Iceland’s many black-sand beaches, Ytri Tunga features golden sands and wide open views of the coastline.
Continue to the Black Church of Búðir (Búðakirkja), one of Iceland’s most photographed landmarks, located in the small hamlet of Búðir on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This distinctive black wooden church stands in stark contrast to the surrounding lava fields and mountains, creating a unique and dramatic visual effect.

Its bright colors and isolated position make it a favorite stop for travelers and photographers alike. Many Icelanders fondly call it the “vision test house”, since its bold red color resembles the red blocks used in childhood eyesight charts.
Finally, visit Kirkjufell Mountain, one of Iceland’s most iconic natural landmarks — and perhaps the most photographed mountain in the country. Rising 463 meters above sea level, its distinct cone shape resembles a pointed hat, earning it the nickname “Straw Hat Mountain.” At its base lies Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall, and together they form one of Iceland’s most stunning natural scenes.
