What to expect
Get ready for an unforgettable vertical adventure just 30 minutes from downtown Reykjavík. Head to Falkaklettur, a striking cliff on the slopes of Mount Esja, one of Iceland’s most beloved hiking areas.
After a short walk through beautiful mountain terrain, reach the base of Falkaklettur, where the adventure begins. Be securely attached to a steel cable and use iron steps and ladders to climb along the rock face – all under the watchful guidance of a certified mountain guide from Fjallafélagið, Iceland’s leading adventure company.
The route is carefully designed to be accessible for beginners while still providing a real sense of exposure and excitement. No climbing experience is required – just a basic level of fitness and a sense of adventure.
As you ascend, be rewarded with incredible panoramic views over the entire city of Reykjavík, Faxaflói Bay, and the surrounding volcanic landscape. On a clear day, see the Reykjanes Peninsula, Snæfellsjökull glacier in the distance, and the vast expanse of the North Atlantic.
Your guide will share insights about the geology, nature, and mountaineering culture of Iceland. The descent follows a scenic trail back to the starting point, rounding off an active and memorable half-day in the outdoors.
