Located just 50 minutes from Reykjavík, this small-group experience around the Reykjanes Peninsula, takes you through one of Iceland’s most active volcanic areas. The landscape is young, raw, and constantly changing, shaped by multiple eruptions that have created new lava fields, craters, and volcanic formations.
All our guides are locals from the area with firsthand experience of the eruptions and deep knowledge of the area. Along the way, they share real stories about life next to an active volcanic system and explain how recent eruptions changed both the landscape and nearby communities.

*Self-drive option:
Meet your guide in Grindavík at 10:45. This option is only suitable for travelers with a rental car. Taxis and shuttles are not suitable, as you will need to follow your guide to the volcano parking area. Parking fees may apply.
*Pickup option:
Includes return transfer from Reykjavík, a short introduction to Grindavík, and the guided volcano hike. During summer or good weather, extra stops may include Seltún geothermal area and Kleifarvatn Lake when conditions allow.

Self-driving is only for travelers with a rental car. Arriving by taxi or shuttle is not possible. You’ll follow the guide's directions in your car to the volcano parking lot (fees apply). After the hike, you continue on your own.
By booking, you confirm you’ve read the full tour info. While the area is public, guided tours offer local insight, eruption updates, and safer access. If there’s an eruption, we adjust the hike to visit it when possible.
Lava is visible only during eruptions. The path may be shared, but the value is in the guidance. Red lava view cannot be predicted or guaranteed.
Only pickup tours include Seltún and Kleifarvatn. Stops at Kleifarvatn and Seltún may be inaccessible during the winter months if roads are closed due to heavy snow or slippery conditions.
