What to expect
Set sail from Húsavík, the Whale Capital of Iceland, on an unforgettable adventure with Friends of Moby Dick a family-operated whale watching company with deep local roots and a lifelong connection to the sea.
Our tours run from March to December, offering guests the chance to experience Iceland’s incredible marine life and stunning Arctic landscapes in comfort and safety.
Cruise through Skjálfandi Bay, surrounded by dramatic mountains and clear northern skies, as you search for humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and even the occasional blue whale. Every tour is a new experience, and part of the thrill lies in the excitement of searching for these majestic animals in their natural environment.
You’ll travel aboard one of our two comfortable boats:
Vinur, a ferry-style vessel with indoor seating and spacious outdoor viewing platforms, perfect for all weather conditions. It is also the only whale watching boat in Húsavík with indoor seating that operates throughout the entire March–December season.
Moby Dick, a beautifully restored traditional oak boat with a wide open deck for excellent photo opportunities.
Our experienced local captains and knowledgeable guides share stories about the whales, the ocean, and Húsavík’s seafaring heritage, turning each tour into a fun, educational, and authentic Icelandic experience.
Safety and comfort are our top priorities. Our skilled crew provides warm flotation suits, life jackets for children, and friendly personal service throughout the tour. Whether you prefer standing on deck watching for blows on the horizon or relaxing inside with panoramic views, you’ll enjoy the North Atlantic at its best.
During spring and summer, you can often enjoy long daylight hours and peaceful conditions on the bay. In autumn and winter, the calm atmosphere and soft Arctic light make for an unforgettable experience on the sea, with far fewer boats around.
Join Friends of Moby Dick for a genuine, family-run adventure — combining Icelandic warmth, maritime tradition, and close encounters with some of the ocean’s most magnificent creatures.
