What to expect
The tour starts with a pickup from your hotel and a small briefing from your host. You will then head towards the Acropolis which, besides being the greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, also dominates the center of the modern city offering panoramic views that will be perfect for photos. Your licensed guide will guide you through the monuments of the Acropolis, which is the most accurate reflection of the splendor, power, and wealth of Athens at its peak during the golden age of Perikles.
After the Acropolis, you will have the option of visiting the museum of the Acropolis which was built to house every artifact found on the Archeologicak site and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. Alternativelly you can choose to visit the Temple of the Olympian Zeus that used to have 104 colossal columns and was one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world. Hadrian's Arch stands there also, which is a masterpiece of symmetry.
Continue on to the Royal Palace of Athens that has housed the Parliament since 1934, watch the changing of the presidential guard and see the monument of the Uknown Soldier. Then you can visit one of the oldest public museums in Greece, the Numismatic (Coin) Museum which is housed in Iliou Melathron. Enjoy a coffee in its beautiful gardens before moving on to the University of Athens, the Academy and the Library, 3 of the most beautiful buildings Athens has to offer.
The Panathenaic Olympic Stadium is up next and also there is the possibility of visiting the Archaeological Museum or South Suburbs of Athens and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, which is designed as a multifunctional arts, education, and entertainment complex.
