What to expect
You’ll leave Athens in the morning for the drive to Delphi. This is the place, according to myth, that Zeus marked with a huge rock as the omphalos, or center of the earth.
Your first stop will be at the sacred Castalia spring, where you can drink water. Then you’ll see the Temple of Apollo and the buildings where each city-state offered treasures to the Oracle of Delphi. You’ll also visit the theatre, the stadium, and the gymnasium.
Delphi Museum houses the famous bronze statue of a charioteer, the large Sphinx of Naxos atop an ionic column, and the two giant kouroi statues.
There will be a break for lunch, after which you’ll have a chance to stop at the picturesque village of Arahova, which is famous for its carpets, rugs, and quilts. You’ll have time for shopping before returning to Athens.
