What to expect
I propose a tour in two parts: first, a 2-hour walking tour in Reims to discover its very, very rich architectural heritage: the Gothic cathedral Notre-Dame and its 2,303 statues (no worries, I provide binoculars and won't comment on all of them), a splendid Art-Déco library built with the exclusive support of tycoon Andrew Carnegie after WWI, the Hôtel Le Vergeur Renaissance estate, and the very nice Place Royale square, one of France's most achieved neoclassical complexes.
Then we get into the van and drive across our splendid UNESCO-classified vineyard to Mathieu's cellar. Mathieu runs an independent family-owned winery located in the Grand Cru classified village of Bouzy. His champagnes are exported to more than 30 countries. We shall drive through the vineyards ; have a little gourmet picnic there with nice wines, breads, local hams and cheese. Then let's go to the cellar and see concretely how our sparkling happiness juice is made. We shall have a tasting to see the many facets (at least five different cuvées) of this great wine.
Several options are possible to enhance your tour a little bit (with an extra cost): going up the cathedral's towers (a bit sporty but the view is incredible), driving across the vineyard with our Mokes (small electric buggies that go absolutely everywhere), and doing a "sabrage" – opening a bottle with a saber
