What to expect
Begin your journey into the world of craft beer with a guided tour of the original Northern Monk brewery, located in the historic Old Flax Store in Leeds.
This immersive experience is designed for anyone curious about how beer is made, from the raw ingredients to the final pour. Our expert hosts will share the story of Northern Monk, a brewery renowned for its innovative approach and deep roots in the local community.
The tour starts with an introduction to Northern Monk and a short history of the company. You'll then be lead through the brewing process, where you’ll learn about the key ingredients and steps involved in creating Northern Monk’s core range and latest specials.
As you move through the brewery, you’ll see the equipment up close and gain insight into the expertise and care that goes into every batch. You'll of course have the chance to ask as many questions as you like. Along the way, enjoy three 1/3-pint tasters, each offering a distinct flavour profile. Expect to sample a variety of styles, from crisp pale ales to robust stouts, with the selection changing based on what’s fresh and exciting. You'll also get one of the exclusive brewery tour glasses to take home with you.
After the tour, you’re invited to relax in the Refectory, the brewery’s on-site taproom. Here, you can continue your exploration of Northern Monk’s offerings, with a rotating selection of beers on tap and a welcoming atmosphere. The experience wraps up in the Refectory on the first floor, giving you the perfect base to enjoy more drinks or head out to discover more of Leeds.

The brewery is based on the ground floor, while the refectory, where the tour starts and finishes, is base don the first floor.
There's no step-free access to the building, or lift facilities between floors.
We have very limited parking on-site, so do not recommend arriving by car if expecting to park.
