What to expect

We meet next at the Greenwich Foot Tunnel entrance, right next to the Cutty Sark tea clipper in Greenwich Town Centre. It is next to the Uber Clipper Pier and 2 minutes from Greenwich Cutty Sark DLR station. We hear about how the British taste for tea provoked war, and drove the expansion of empire in China and India....and other surprising facts. This is a very picturesque tour. Greenwich has some perfect examples of C17 and C18 Wren and Inigo Jones architecture, with the backdrop of the River Thames and the Royal Park. We move on to the Old Royal Naval College - and hear about the lives of the Tudor monarchs who made history from their palace of Placentia. And of course we hear about the lives of sailors, heroes and pirates who changed the face of Greenwich and global history. We stop outside the Queen's House, and admire the perfect example of Inigo Jones architecture. We will then make our way into Greenwich Park to enjoy the views that were shared for hundreds of years by Charles II, Turner and the old veterans of the British Navy. There are some steep walks, but the effort is well worth it to get the views across the whole of London. We will do this at a leisurely pace to ensure everyone can enjoy the stroll. We explore the top of the park, pausing to hear about the former slaves London, before making our way to the Royal Observatory and the Prime who lived around Greenwich and who prospered as freed men in C18 Meridian - hearing the exciting stories of navigation and science that helped Britain rule the waves for hundreds of years. The tour ends at the Observatory with opportunities for photos. ............................................................................................................................................ If you want to make a day of it, there is so much to see before or after the tour - the Market in the town centre is full of arts and crafts as well as delicious food stalls. There is also the option of exploring some of the museums of Greenwich unguided - the National Maritime Museum and Queen's House are well worth visiting and are free. The Observatory, Cutty Sark and the Painted Hall make charges for entry.
