What to expect
Hike along the levadas, or mini-canals, on a guided trek from Funchal. Choose between a private or shared tour, hike along the western side of the island, and walk past cascading waterfalls.
Begin your adventure with a hotel pickup in Funchal. Head to the Levada do Alecrim and start your 10-kilometer trek. Hike along the levada (mini-canal) through looming forests filled with tweeting birds and mysterious trees. Continue past rock pools carved over millions of years by running water and stop to enjoy the roaring waterfalls.
In the summer, stop to swim in the Lagoa Dona Beha, a refreshing mountain lake ringed by waterfalls before looping back to your starting point.
