What to expect
The Goat and Wolf Route is a circular walking trail about 12 km long. It starts and ends in Aldeia da Pena. It's a moderate difficulty level with parts of the route that require some attention, but if you're used to hiking, you'll finish this one easily.
We invite you to explore the mountainous landscape filled with shale rock formations, deep valleys, streams, and villages that still live with traditional features of yesteryear.
We'll pass through Aldeia da Pena, Covas do Monte, and Covas do Rios, places with a rich tradition and history, strongly linked to agriculture and cattle. Along the way, you'll find the Livraria da Pena, a monumental place with huge escarpments pretending to be books for the Gods.
Along the way, you'll hear plenty of local legends, like "The dead man who killed the living man" and "The goat that killed the wolf," which give this route a mysterious, ancestral feel.
The route combines nature, culture, and physical challenge. It's perfect for those looking to discover a more authentic and less touristy side of central Portugal.
