What to expect
This immersive journey follows a detailed route through landscapes shaped by volcanic origins, centuries of tradition, and natural preservation.
Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up as you leave Funchal, Madeira’s historic capital. From here, continue to Cabo Girão, one of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, where cultivated terraces below reflect generations of agricultural adaptation to the island’s steep terrain.
The route then follows the quieter coastal areas of Lugar de Baixo and Candelaria, offering insight into Madeira’s traditional way of life. As you move inland through Lombo Mouro, the scenery becomes more rugged, revealing the island’s volcanic structure through steep roads and dramatic elevation.
Reaching Paul da Serra, Madeira’s largest plateau, the landscape opens into wide horizons and rolling terrain.
The journey continues into the Laurisilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a rare remnant of ancient forests that once covered parts of Europe. In the Fanal area, centuries-old laurel trees, shaped by wind and humidity, create a distinct and atmospheric setting often covered in mist.
