Embark on an exclusive boat journey with "Capelinhos Ocean Tours," the only tour of its kind in Faial Island, Azores. Our boat takes you beyond the shores to the legendary, one of the kind Capelinhos volcano, showcasing a side of the island inaccessible by land. Witness the majestic grottoes, the iconic Elephant Rock, towering cliffs, and serene bays up close—natural wonders, that define the island's unique landscape.
As partners with the Natural Park of the Azores and Geoparque Açores, we're dedicated to bringing you face-to-face with the awe-inspiring Capelinhos volcano from the vantage point of the sea. Our tour highlights seven must-see coastal attractions, including the historical Marina Horta, the whale-hunter's Porto Pim Bay, the enigmatic caves of Ponta Furada, and the trachyte rock formations of Morro de Castelo Branco.
Discover the cliffside nesting grounds at Varadouro Bay, and the reborn Capelinhos volcano lighthouse, now a poignant museum. The journey concludes with a panoramic ocean view of Faial Island's entirety. Alongside these sights, you might even spot marine wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and turtles.

Terms & conditions
We don’t have a toilet on the boat, but there are public restrooms available to use before the tour.
As the weather in the Azores can be very changeable, don't put off your tour to the Capelinhos until the last minute. It's always good to have a few spare days.
It may also happen, that the weather conditions change and the boat tour will not take place. Your safety is most important to us . In this case we inform you about this situation and if it is possible we try to offer to postpone your tour on the nearest possible date.
As the sea is never totally calm, it is not be suitable for young children and are not recommended for pregnant women. Persons under 18 must be looked after by adults.
TOTAL TIME: around 3h30 - 4h.
Before the boat trip, we hold a short briefing to explain what we’ll be visiting and to go over the safety instructions on board. This usually takes around 30–45 minutes extra time, which should be added to the total tour time.
