What to expect
Day 1: Fès → Ifrane → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Erfoud → Merzouga
Your guide collects you at your hotel in Fès and whisks you straight into the Atlas foothills. First stop: Ifrane, “Moroccan Switzerland,” with its Alpine façades and cool mountain air. Next, explore the cedar forests of Azrou, where curious Barbary macaques approach for treats and photo ops. In Midelt, break for a traditional lunch—perhaps a spicy tagine or fresh camel-burger—and recharge for the road ahead. Cruise through the lush Ziz Valley, its palm-lined riverbanks creating an oasis in the rocky terrain, then pause in Erfoud to marvel at ancient fossil quarries and learn how these 400-million-year-old treasures are unearthed.
By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga. Drop your bags at a desert camp, then climb aboard a sure-footed camel for a 45-minute trek across rolling dunes. Watch the sun melt into the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues. At your nomad tent, savor a hearty Berber feast prepared over an open flame, sip sweet mint tea by the campfire, and lose yourself in an authentic folklore performance under a tapestry of stars. Drift to sleep on plush bedding, lulled by the whispering desert breeze.
Day 2: Merzouga – Marrakech
Rise early to watch the sunrise over the Sahara. After breakfast, return by camel or 4x4 to meet your driver. Travel back through Morocco’s landscapes, arriving in Marrakech by evening with drop-off at your hotel or Djemaa El Fna square.
