What to expect
Escape the hustle and heat of Marrakech for a refreshing full-day journey into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains and the spectacular Ourika Valley. This immersive tour offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural exchange, and light adventure.
Your day begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. The scenic 60–90 minute drive offers breathtaking views as you ascend, watching the landscape transform from flat plains into rolling foothills.
Your very first stop is a dedicated panoramic viewpoint, perfectly situated to capture the majestic scenery. Take stunning photographs of the Atlas Mountains, the verdant valley, and traditional Berber villages nestled below. You’ll also have the opportunity here to take pictures with the resident camels or browse local pottery and crafts.
Next, you will travel further into the valley, passing terraced fields and fruit orchards. The journey continues with a visit to a locally run Argan Oil cooperative, where you can see how the region’s famous "liquid gold" is traditionally extracted by Berber women (optional, but highly recommended). This provides a great cultural introduction to the area.
Upon arrival at the valley's end—typically the village of Setti Fatma—you will meet your expert local mountain guide. The main event is a refreshing guided hike (approx. 1.5 - 2 hours round trip) to the celebrated Ourika Waterfalls. This trek is manageable for those with moderate fitness and involves traversing rocky paths and charming wooden bridges. Your guide will ensure your safety, point out local flora, and share insights into the resilient Berber way of life.
After working up an appetite, you will be led to a picturesque riverside restaurant where a delicious, traditional Moroccan lunch awaits. Savor local specialties, like a tagine or couscous, while relaxing with the sound of the flowing river.
The afternoon concludes with some free time to explore Setti Fatma, perhaps browsing the local stalls for crafts or enjoying a mint tea, before the comfortable return drive. You will arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
This tour provides a truly authentic escape, combining the stunning nature of the Atlas Mountains with genuine Berber cultural immersion.
