Your guide will meet you at the lobby of the Luoyang Hotel or at the exit of the arrival Luoyang Railway Station with a welcome sign for a day of exploration in Luoyang. Longmen Grottoes, eight miles (13 kilometers) west of Luoyang, is one of the four largest grottoes clusters in China. The relics are nestled between lush green hills and meandering rivers. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, grottoes of different sizes carved by different dynasties are a feast for the eyes. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will head to the Shaolin Temple, which takes about one and a half hours by car. The Shaolin Temple is shrouded in legend and mystery. The origins of martial arts and kung fu are part of the mystery of the Shaolin Temple and its monks. This is probably the most famous temple in China, not only because of its long history, but also because of its role in Chinese Buddhism and martial arts (also known as wushu). You can also enjoy a half-hour kung fu show at the theater and watch Shaolin monks display different weapons. After the tour, you will be taken to Luoyang Railway Station to catch the train to your next station.
