Indian Heritage Centre
The Indian Heritage Centre, under the management of the National Heritage Board and with support from the Indian community, traces the history of the Indian and South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region.
The four-storey building is an iconic, unique and sustainable building that blends both traditional Indian as well as modern architectural elements. The architectural design for the facade is inspired by the baoli (or Indian stepwell), and seeks to create an urban forum for the celebration and appreciation of Indian culture. It houses five permanent galleries, a museum shop as well as programming and activity spaces.
The diversity and multi-faceted nature of Indian culture is also captured in the use of a translucent shimmering façade to create an impression of the Centre as a “shining jewel” in the day, and the transformation into a “glowing lantern” of the Indian community with the lighting of the colourful façade mural at night.
Situated at 5 Campbell Lane, the Centre also serves as a springboard for visitors to explore Little India and enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of the historical precinct. Indian Heritage Centre was opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 7 May 2015 and offers year-round exhibitions, programmes and activities to promote greater public awareness and appreciation of Indian heritage, arts and culture.
It is important to understand general museum etiquette before visiting our centre to ensure an enjoyable and fruitful experience.
Did you know for instance that food and drink are not allowed in our galleries? Further to this, we encourage visitors to traverse our galleries quietly to help foster a contemplative space for all guests to be able to experience the stories, art and historical objects on display.
- Permanent Galleries: The centre features ancient sculptures, ceremonial artefacts, and plenty of stories of early migrants.
- Free Guided Tours: The centre offers free guided tours from Tuesdays to Sundays.
- Workshops: The centre holds various workshops such as miniature painting, jewellery making, and saree tying.
- There are also free live cooking demonstrations and cultural performances during festivals such as Deepavali and Pongal.
- Pongal Open House 2024: The centre celebrated the harvest festival Pongal with an exciting array of programmes.
- Accessibility: We provide ramps for wheelchairs and strollers at the front of our building on Campbell Lane, and on the side next to Clive Street.
- Accessibility: Stroller parking is available at our lobby.
- Please present ID for verification.
- Concession Ticket valid for Child, Student and Senior Citizen -Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents and Children 6 years and below (any nationality) enjoy free admission to all galleries.

- VENUE RULES AND REGULATIONS:
- Please note and observe the following Venue Rules and Regulations at all times during the visit:
- a. No flash photography and/or video filming are allowed in the galleries.
- b. Visitors are required to remove their shoes and place it on the racks provided prior to entering the galleries.
- c. Food and drinks are strictly prohibited in the galleries.
- d. Smoking in the galleries and IHC compound is strictly prohibited. Please refrain from rowdy behaviour, especially in common and waiting areas, during the visit. NHB/IHC reserves the right to immediately stop any activity or conduct which is, in NHB/IHC’s sole discretion, deemed to be illegal, improper, indecent, unsafe or is likely to cause a nuisance to other persons within or around the venue. NHB/IHC shall further have the right to immediately eject from the Venue any person(s) that is found to be engaging in such activity or conduct.
