Langkawi Birdwatching Tour - Morning session
Langkawi is home to around 267 bird species, with roughly one-third being migratory visitors that winter here between November and April. Outside these months, visitors can still enjoy sightings of the island’s rich variety of resident birds. The best times for birdwatching in the tropics are early morning and late afternoon, when bird activity peaks.
This half-day birdwatching tour is designed for both serious birders and casual enthusiasts and is divided into two sessions; you’re welcome to join both or select the one that interests you most.
The first session takes you through open rainforest corridors, ideal for spotting forest species like Flowerpeckers, Hill Mynas, Dollarbirds, Racket-tailed Drongos, Woodpeckers, Oriental Pied Hornbills, Great Hornbills, and with a bit of luck, the Mountain Hawk-Eagle.
Next, we head to the mangroves, where we’ll look for Brown-winged, Collared, and Black-capped Kingfishers, as well as White-bellied Sea Eagles, Brahminy Kites, Common Sandpipers, and Little Herons.
Our final stop is at the paddy fields, where we’ll search for water and farmland birds such as Red-wattled Lapwings, Pond Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, White-throated Kingfishers, and Purple Swamphens.
- Among the birds, we may see are Flower Peckers, Hill Mynas, Dollarbirds, Green Pigeons, Drongos, Tailorbirds, Babblers, Bulbuls, Sunbirds, Eagles, Woodpeckers, and Oriental-pied Hornbills.
- Our next destination takes us to a mangrove forest to search out the Brown-winged Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Brahminy Kite, Common Sandpiper, and Little Heron.
- Along the way we make a stop at Paddy field in search of birds associated with this habitat. We may get to see Lapwings, Pond Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, White-throated Kingfisher and Plain-backed Sparrows.
- We then drive to the highest peak in Langkawi to see Great Hornbills, Wreathed Hornbills and other rainforest species. These amazing birds will be the highlight of the trip. The Great Hornbills measuring 1.3meters (4 feet) from tip of beak to tip of tail, are the largest birds in Langkawi. Return to hotel.
